Cali RB has Big 12 leader

San Diego (Calif.) University running back Demetrius Sumler is yet another high Div I player at the deepest position in the West this year. Sumler is holding two offers at this time and should get looks at both a tailback and fullback.
Sumler, 5-11, 220 pounds is a bruising back who would be a good fit in either a one back offense as the primary ball carrier or even as a fullback although the athlete definitely prefers the ball in his hands.

As a junior, Sumler rushed for 1,697 yards and 23 touchdowns and also caught passes for an additional 300 yards and a score. The back is a powerful runner with a nice burst to get through the hole and is tough to bring down once he gets moving. He has enough speed at the HS level to bounce it outside but will likely be primarily a between the tackle type back in college.
On the recruiting front, Sumler is hearing from the Pac 10 plus Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma State, LSU, and Boston College.
"Texas is my dream school and my favorite right now," Sumler said. "I've always liked Texas and went to their Junior Day last month and really liked it there. I also like USC, Colorado, Alabama and Cal, that would be my top five right now. Colorado and Utah have both offered me.
"I'm planning to camp at Texas, USC, Oklahoma and UCLA and will also attend the Nike Camp in Los Angeles next month. I'm planning to major in Business Management in college and I'm looking for a school with a nice combination of academics and football, the schools graduation rate and just my overall comfort level there."
Academically, Sumler is carrying a 2.86 GPA and he'll take the SAT later in the year.
