Cali QB hitting stride

The state of California is loaded at the quarterback position. The Golden State will send more quarterbacks to the D-I level than many states send players at any position.
One signal-caller who is certain to get a D-I ride is Richard Irvin (6-2, 185, 4.8). Irvin will play at Pasadena (Calif.) Muir his senior season after a stellar high school career at Studio City (Calif.) Harvard-Westlake.

Irvin will be a rare four-year starter as a quarterback on the high school level. What is even more impressive is the fact that Irvin has been an all-league selection all three years as a starter.
In 22 varsity starts, Irvin has thrown for 3,618 yards and 21 touchdowns.
Look for Irvin to continue his success at Muir. His offensive coordinator will be Steve Clarkson. Clarkson is one of the best quarterback coaches in California and has a very impressive roster of former pupils playing on the D-I level.
Irvin has an outstanding work ethic and he’s been working on improving his skills at Air 7 one of the best private coaching academies in southern California. He has also impressed those in attendance at the USC, UCLA and the Nike camp held at USC.
This hard-working quarterback didn’t stop on the west coast. Irvin just came home from camping with the Georgia Bulldogs and Florida Gators. Irvin once again impressed onlookers.
Irvin was selected quarterback MVP at the Georgia camp and was co-MVP quarterback at the Florida camp.
Irvin’s top colleges at the moment are USC, Florida, Michigan State, Georgia and Stanford.
What is Irvin looking for in a school? “Football will be important and good alumni support,” Irvin said. “Good school spirit and a school with good academics. I plan to major in business.”
Irvin comes from very athletic bloodlines. His father Richard Irvin was a three-time All-America volleyball player. The elder Irvin was the first three-year starter on three NCAA championship teams as well as the NCAA MVP in 1972.
Irvin’s sister, Marissa earned a tennis scholarship to Stanford and she’s now on the pro tour. She recently competed in the French Open and Wimbledon.
Several other family members have played D-I sports, Irvin is poised to follow the family tradition of earning a D-I scholarship for athletic prowess.
Remember the name Richard Irvin and expect a breakout year from this talented field general.
