Cali QB getting looks coast-to-coast

Dual-threat quarterbacks have always caused trouble for defenses and with the popularity of the spread offense, there is now a premium on the signal caller who can make plays with his arm and his feet. One such quarterback is Lester Fontenette (6-2, 210, 4.5) from San Diego (Calif.) Madison.
This talented field general earned all-league honors as a junior though he only played in six and a half games. In those six and half he rushed for 1,060 yards and eight touchdowns. He passed for 511 yards and nine touchdowns. When you consider that in his six and half games, which many times he didn't play in the second half, due to blowouts, his stats are even more impressive.

Madison head coach Rick Jackson is very proud of the toughness and athleticism of his student-athlete.
"Lest broke his thumb during the seventh game," Jackson said. "He had surgery on it missed two games then came back in time to play linebacker for us during the playoffs. He's the best linebacker on our team, too."
"Some schools are recruiting Lester as a linebacker, but he wants to try to play quarterback first," Jackson said. "We converted Lester to quarterback because we had Robbie Rouse, who rushed for 2,300 yards and we had to find a way to get Lester on the field."
"Lester has really improved has a quarterback, too," Jackson said. "He is doing all the little things like watching film so he knows what the defense is doing and he can find the soft spots."
"Lester is an extremely intelligent football player and very coachable. He picks things up very easily and then his talent does the rest."
Another thing to like about Fontenette is running a spread style offense that is similar to West Virginia and Oregon.
Super strong for his size, Fontenette broke the school power clean record during his sophomore year when he cleaned 275. He benches 280 and squats 410.
Penn State, Ohio State, Washington and Oregon have called the school and have talked to Jackson. Other schools that are showing interest are UCLA, Washington State, Fresno State, San Diego State and others are showing Fontenette recruiting interest.
