Cali OL pulls the trigger

Oakland (Calif.) McClymonds offensive lineman Thomas Byrd nearly committed to Boise State on his visit back in mid November. The lineman decided to take one more trip first and checked out San Jose State this past weekend. After thinking things over, the lineman has made his choice.
"I committed to Boise State," Byrd said. "My trip to San Jose State was good but Boise State was just the best fit for me. I loved the campus, the coaches and the players on the team and just felt very comfortable there on my visit. When I was on the trip, I just knew Boise was where I was going to end up and almost committed a few times.

"I actually told my recruiting coach, Coach Choate, last Tuesday or Wednesday that I was coming to Boise State but I wanted to still check out San Jose State. I really enjoyed my visit there and it became a much tougher decision for me than I thought it would be. San Jose State has an up and coming program and I really enjoyed being around the guys on the team.
"There wasn't much that separated the two schools to be honest but at Boise State, I just loved the coaching staff as well as their style of play. Their offensive line plays a lot like me, they play with a nasty attitude and they just keep coming after you. That's my style too so I know I'll be a good fit in that offense.
"Coach Kugler and Coach Petersen just came by the school today and I went ahead and re-affirmed my commitment to them. They're going to come over for a home visit tonight to talk with my family as well. I'm excited though, Boise State needs depth at center and that's my position and I'm hoping to get in there and make an impact for them."
