Easily one of the biggest and best linemen in the West region this year is Ventura (Calif.) St. Bonaventure athlete Vaughn Dotsy. The talented prospect is hearing from schools all over the country and has five schools at the top of his board.
Dotsy is a player that has been on our radar since prior to his sophomore season. Seraph coach Jon Mack told us Dotsy was going to be a special player for him and he was right as the tackle earned all-state underclass honors following that sophomore season.
Last summer, Dotsy attended the SoCal NIKE Camp and impressed with 31 reps on the bench and also was strong in the position drills earning NIKE Camp underclass All-American honors.
Dotsy, 6-4, 340 pounds had another big season this past year and once again earned all-state underclass honors. We saw the lineman in action multiple times this past season and feel he has a ton of potential.
Despite his size, and we do feel it would good for Dotsy to drop 20-25 pounds or so, he has surprisingly quick feet, can get out and pull or trap and does a nice job getting in to the secondary and making a block on a linebacker or safety.
"He has to be considered among the top lineman in the nation," Mack said. "I was a coach at the Army All-American game last year and I think Vaughn would have been up there with any of those lineman in the game. He has great size, is very physical and is capable of dominating at the next level."
On the recruiting front, Dotsy claims offers from Florida, Michigan, Arizona State, Arizona State, Ole Miss, San Diego State and Alabama.
"My top five right now would be UCLA, USC, Michigan, Florida and Notre Dame," Dotsy said. "UCLA and USC were my favorite schools growing up and I still like both of them a lot. Neither has offered yet but I'm still hearing a lot from them.
"I'm not close to making a decision now and I want to take my trips before doing anything. I would like to narrow things down in the summer but I don't know when I'll be ready to make a commitment anywhere."
Dotsy will be in attendance this Sunday at the NIKE Camp at USC.
