Cali junior lands offer No. 3

Compton (Calif.) had a breakout season as a program qualifying for the playoffs for the first time in years and will also have at least three players sign with Div I colleges. The tradition will continue next season as defensive end Datone Jones has already received three early scholarship offers.
Jones, 6-4, 240 pounds was a 1st team all-league selection this past season after totaling 60 tackles and four sacks. He worked out at the recent NIKE Combine in Long Beach and is one of the most physically impressive looking players in the state.

"Datone picked up his third scholarship offer yesterday," Compton coach Calvin Bryant said. "Mississippi was the first offer and just sent over the letter this week. I always talked to Darian Hagan at Colorado and they verbally offered and said the letter is on it's way as well.
"The most recent school is Oregon. I talked to Coach Pellum who said they're offering and I should look for something from them shortly as well. Fresno State is also close. They were just in here talking about Porter Hill who signed with Fresno State and they told me they want Datone badly.
"Datone is a tremendous player and will be one of the top players in Southern California next year. He is very talented and has great size, quickness and playmaking ability. He's really good at defeating an offensive lineman off the ball and is a very good pass rusher as well."
As for early favorites, Jones told us at the combine he liked Colorado and Oregon and Coach Bryant added a few other schools as well.
"We sat down and talked about schools just last week," Bryant said. "He's open and wants to go through the process but in addition to the schools that have offered, he also likes Cal, Arizona State and Notre Dame. Datone is just excited about the process and is looking forward to the upcoming season."
