In just a few years, Compton (Calif.) has quickly become one of the top football programs in Southern CA. The Tarbabes are getting multiple players out to Div I schools and will have another national recruit in the class of 2009.
This year, defensive end Datone Jones is the marquee player on the team and next year, that honor will go to linebacker Chris Metcalf. Metcalf, 6-2, 190 pounds will be a three year starter next year and could project as a safety or weakside 'backer in college.
"He's at the same level as Datone is in terms of his ability and will be recruited just has heavily," Compton coach Calvin Bryant said. "Chris is long and rangy and very physical. He was our only sophomore starter last season and is having a strong year this year as well.
"Without him, I don't think we would be 2-0 right now. He does so many things for us. He has a safety body and frame and that's probably his best college position but we play him at linebacker because we like him close to the line of scrimmage.
"Colorado has actually already offered him, they offered when Chris was still just a sophomore. The Pac 10 is all starting to show interest and I think as more schools get a look at him, the offers will start to fly in He's a true difference maker and a great college prospect."
