Cali Junior DT Has Offers

In terms of early scholarship offers, we have yet to see a player getting as much as attention as Manhatten Beach (Calif.) Mira Costa defensive lineman Mataele Pauu. Pau’u, who doubles as the teams starting fullback names his top five and has offers from four of his favorites right now.
Pauu, 6-3, 288 pounds is a huge tackle prospect and is regarded by many close to the Mustang program as the school’s best prospect since Phil Fonua patrolled the line of scrimmage 10 years ago. Pauu was a 1st team All-State Underclass selection as a sophomore and is likely to make the team once again this season. He has already been named All-League and All-Area.

The big tackle finished the year with 76 tackles and two quarterback sacks and doubled as the team’s short yardage fullback rushing for 121 yards and five touchdowns. Pauu obviously has the size you’re looking for a in a defensive tackle but is also quick off the ball, very strong and gets a nice push up the middle despite constant double teams all season.
“Michigan and UCLA are my top two and both have offered,” Pauu said. “I also like Arizona State, Oregon and USC. All but USC have offered. San Jose State has also offered me. I have no plans to make an early commitment. Right now I would like to just finish the rest of my junior year and then worry about recruiting over the summer. I do plan to take my trips before making any decisions.”
Academically, Pauu is carrying a 2.9 GPA and will take the SAT at a later time.
