Calcaterra has Midwest roots

Grant Calcaterra has landed his first two offers from Purdue and Illinois which might seem like curious ones for a 2017 athlete from Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Santa Margarita Catholic but he is originally from the Cincinnati area and has a lot of Midwest ties. Calcaterra said both schools are of interest now and he's also receiving a whole lot more interest as well.

WHAT'S NEXT?: The 2017 prospect from Santa Margarita Catholic attended the Washington State-UCLA game on Monday and other visits could happen as well. The Cougars, Bruins, Notre Dame, Washington and Georgia have reached out among others and it sounds like Calcaterra is just getting going with the recruiting process. In his junior season, he finished with 48 catches for 926 yards and nine touchdowns.
IN HIS WORDS: "I'm from Cincinnati and moved here when I was younger so I have a few connections in that area who try to put in a good word for me. I've briefly heard from Notre Dame and UCLA. I've gotten a lot of mail from Washington State and a few letters from Washington and Georgia and I (attended) the UCLA game (Saturday) as a recruit. I'd like to hear more from Oregon because I feel that I would fit their offense as a tight end/hybrid/receiver. Also my older brother went to school there so I am very familiar with the area and I like it a lot."
RIVALS' REACTION: Calcaterra is just starting the recruiting process and it's way too early to make a prediction. This offseason could offer some light on his recruitment. His quarterback, K.J. Costello, is going to Stanford so that could be something to watch. Staying in the Pac-12 is not a guarantee with his Midwest roots so if major Big 10 teams come after him he could take a look.
