Cal-UCLA to battle for another Stevens

Two years ago, Cal was able to hold off UCLA for the signature of Peninsula (Calif.) tight end Craig Stevens. What made the recruitment of Stevens so interesting was he grew up a die hard fan of the Bruins as both of his parents attended UCLA. An early offer from the Bears and a strong finish to the season helped seal the deal. Now there's another Stevens set to hit the recruiting trail, Brett Stevens, and as you would imagine, UCLA and Cal sit at the top of his list.
"I think he'll be a national recruit," Peninsula head coach Tony Auruburu said. "He'll be a three year starter for us and has good speed and strength. He played all over for us, a little defensive end, linebacker and tight end but I think his future is as a pass rushing defensive end."

Stevens, 6-3, 215 pounds has more of linebacker frame right now but could grow in to a defensive end or even tight end in college. As a junior, he earned first team all-league and all-area honors on defense after totaling 95 tackles and nine quarterback sacks.
On the recruiting front, Stevens is hearing from Notre Dame, Oregon, UCLA, Cal, Fresno State, Washington, Tennessee and Texas A&M.
"UCLA is my top school followed by Cal, USC, Notre Dame and San Diego State," Stevens said. "I grew up a UCLA fan being in a Bruin family and all but I like Cal too now and Craig is doing well there. Tradition and location are important to me and I'm looking forward to going through the recruiting process and seeing what it's like."
Academically, Stevens is carrying a 3.3 GPA and will take the SAT later in the year. He'll attend the Nike Camp at Stanford in May but is unsure about the rest of his camp plans.
