Cal lands two way standout

Cal came up just a little short this past weekend in their game with USC but regardless of the outcome, recruiting is at an all time high right now for the Bears. Cal recently picked up commitment No. 4 from Oakland (Calif.) Bishop O’Dowd two way standout Jesse Brooks.
Brooks, 6-0, 190 pounds is an excellent athlete who stars on both sides of the ball for the Dragons. He plays running back and safety but said he was recruited by the Bears to play free safety.

“That’s where I wanted to play too so it worked out great,” Brooks said. “Cal has been my top school for a long time and after they offered me, I didn’t waste too much time committing to them. Utah and Fresno State also offered and I have visits set to both schools but I don’t think I’ll take them. I haven’t told Cal I have the trips set up but I doubt they would want me to take the visits so I don’t I think I will.
“There were a lot of reasons why I chose Cal. For starters, it’s a great academic school, you can’t beat a Cal degree. Football wise, they have a great program and are only getting better. I think anyone who saw the game against USC last weekend has to feel Cal is the best team in the country right now. Even some of my teammates who like USC a lot told me Cal was the better team by far.
“I also love Coach Tedford and the whole staff as a whole. There’s always a lot of rumors that he won’t be there much longer but he told me he’s not going anywhere and I believe him. He’s a great coach and I think a lot of people will talk to him but I think he’ll stay there for awhile and I can’t wait to get there.”
On the season, Brooks said he has rushed for 830 yards and eight touchdowns in five games. He didn’t remember his total tackles but said he has one interception and two forced fumbles.
