"I just thought about it for a while," Parson said. "And Cal made the most sense to me."
"I'll be showing up to campus in August and I sign on February 6."
Parson also considered Arizona and Iowa State among others.
It's been a circuitious route to Division I football for Parson.
He was originally slated to attend Kansas out of high school, but Jayhawk coaches pulled back their scholarship offer. He then went into the armed services for a couple of years before returning to LA Harbor a more mature athlete and more capable student.
"My experiences have all been helpful, they've helped me along the way.
"Getting to play Division I at Cal, that's like a dream that's finally coming true."
Parson said he will be taking a few more classes this spring in preparation to attend Cal and also continuing his workout program.
