Cal lands a good one

When we talked with Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame offensive lineman Sam DeMartinis a few weeks ago, the lineman mentioned he would be taking an unofficial visit this past weekend to Cal to watch the Bears take on UCLA. DeMartinis also mentioned if things went well, there was a chance he could commit and that's exactly what he did.
"It had been coming for awhile now," DeMartinis said. "I've liked Cal for a long time and everything just felt right there. My parents and I got up there Saturday around 12:00 and had time to walk around a little and then we headed over to the stadium.

"We were down on the field before the game and then went up in to the stands before kickoff. At halftime, they had a dinner for some of the recruits there and then after the game, my parents went in to Coach Michalczik's office. He asked us if we had any questions that he could answer and I told him that I was ready to commit and be a Bear.
"He was really excited and kind of jumped up out of his chair. I told him that my parents and I had been talking and we wanted to do it now. I'm definitely excited as well to get my decision out of the way. Cal has a great combination of athletics and academics, I love Coach Michalczik and the school is close to home but still far enough way to feel like I'm getting away from home."
DeMartinis, 6-6, 275 pounds is a talented lineman who could play guard or tackle for the Bears. He narrowed his choices recently to Cal and Arizona State before deciding on the Bears on Saturday.
