As Tre Alexander's recruitment kicked off this year, Ole Miss looked like an early favorite. Then NC State had his attention after a trip to Raleigh, but on Friday the senior went public with a pledge across the country to BYU.

"My relationship with the coaching staff played the biggest role," Alexander told Rivals. "I really evaluated all of the schools and this is where my heart is."

Alexander comes off the board to the Big 12 program over seven other scholarship opportunities from the SEC, ACC and Group of Five. He becomes the highest-ranked secondary prospect on Rivals to pick the program in the 2024 cycle.

The Cougar coaching staff has been in touch with the Decatur (Ga.) Southwest Dekalb standout since the early spring, with the offer coming in early June. Since, the communication between each side increased considerably.

"It's the family feeling from them honestly," Alexander said. "I know the on-field is important but in my recruitment off-the-field is the most important!

"Especially being far away from mom and dad."

The three-star has yet to get up to campus at BYU, something he expects to change in short order once the 2023 football season begins.

"I'll go out there a lot," he said.

BYU is up to 10 verbal commitments in the class of 2024, with Alexander checking in as the first pledge from outside the west coast footprint.

Alexander and SDHS open up the 2023 season August 18 against South Atlanta High School.
