BYU lands another

There isn't a hotter school out West right now than BYU. The Cougars have been racking up commitments almost daily and are closing in on 20 commits right now and picked up yet another standout player in Elk Grove (Calif.) athlete Brannon Brooks.
"Brannon just committed to BYU earlier today," Brooks' father Michael said. "BYU has been on him from the very beginning and was always up front and honest with him. He was there for Junior Day and just fell in love with the place.

"You can't beat the education at BYU and the campus and especially the football facilities are incredible. He loves the coaching staff there and we all truly believe that BYU is going to be back to being a national power soon. Maybe not this year or even next year but in three years or so, with the way they have been recruiting, they're going to be very good."
The Cougars early season recruiting success was a big reason for Brooks' early commitment.
"We've been watching how well BYU has recruited and Brannon knew he wanted to be a part of that," Michael said. "When we saw some of the players they landed, guys like Jason Munns and such, that impressed us. It also made Brannon think about making his decision early. He didn't want to risk waiting too long and having his ride go to someone else."
Oregon and Arizona were the other schools Brooks considered before selecting the Cougs.
"A lot of schools were looking at Brannon and wanted to see him as a senior before offering," Michael added. "Arizona wanted to see him play a game. Oregon said they were going to offer him and we went up there on an unofficial trip but they never offered.
"Throught it all, BYU was always there and he's excited about his decision. He'll have a chance to play early and that was important to him. He'll come in as a cover corner and will also be on the return team. I think he made a great decision and we're all excited for Brannon right now."
Brooks, 5-9, 165 pounds earned all-league honors at DB a year ago after totaling 58 tackles with four forced fumbles. He'll also play running back this season but was recruited on the defensive side of the ball.
