Byrnes sleeper on the radar

Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes will produce a number of major college signees in the 2010 class, but one of their lesser known prospects is cornerback Nick Jones. Jones participated in Saturday's Nike Camp held in Athens, Ga. The 5-foot-8, 170-pound prospect has already gotten some early interest in the recruiting process.
"I have already gotten offers from Northern Illinois and Georgia Southern just recently," Jones said. "South Carolina and Penn State are real hard after me."

Jones has previously visited Florida State, Tennessee, Georgia, Auburn, and South Carolina. This summer he is planning to visit Penn State.
He said receiving his first two offers was very exciting.
"It was a very good feeling," Jones said. "Knowing that my parents won't have to pay for my college education because I know how hard that will be on them. It just made my day. It put a big smile on my face."
Having already seen a number of college campuses and with offers starting to come in, Jones is hoping a strong spring will allow him to receive even more offers.
"My options are wide open," Jones said. "I am just waiting for that big school to offer me."
With major prospects such as five-star running back Marcus Lattimore and four-star defensive linemen Brandon Willis and Corey Miller as teammates, Jones will have a number of college coaches catching a glimpse of him this spring. Jones said they are in for a treat when they watch the Rebels prepare to defend their state championship.
"It is real intense," Jones said. "A lot of people don't see what goes on behind the scenes but we work real hard for what we get. If you want to play at Byrnes, you better be very well prepared and ready to work hard."
This weekend, Jones will take the SAT. He expected to be a full qualifier.
