Byrd to fly west

Defensive back Jarious Byrd (5-10, 191, 4.5) from Clayton, Mo., saw his stock heat up in recent days. As a matter of fact the Cal Bears offered the talented corner a scholarship just yesterday to go with several other offers. Byrd has decided to go to a western school.
"Yes, he committed to Oregon," Mrs. Gill Byrd said. "I was there. We enjoyed ourselves. It was outstanding."

Byrd is the son of former NFL all-pro performer and current St. Louis Ram assistant coach Gill Byrd. Even with prestigious bloodlines, Byrd was somewhat of a sleeper due to the fact that he played his first two years of high school football in Wisconsin and his last two in Missouri.
Byrd first impressed Rivals.com with a strong showing at UCLA's summer football camp. He showed off athleticism and had an excellent jump on the football.
The Ducks were able to fend off a strong but late run from Cal. The Bears weren't the only competition the Ducks had in landing Byrd. He also had offers from Louisville, Colorado State, Illinois, Arizona State, New Mexico State and Northern Illinois.
This is a case where a Byrd wanted to be a Duck. Nice get for Oregon.
