North Augusta, S.C., star C.J. Byrd, who is a candidate to be South Carolina's top prospect for next year, was offered by Maryland on Tuesday.
It was the eighth football scholarship so far for Byrd this spring.
"C.J. gets stacks of mail every day, and Tuesday's load had an offer from Maryland," North Augusta coach Joe Long said.
"We had an idea this was coming because I had talked to Maryland last week. CJ is excited about Maryland ... they compete for the ACC Championship every year and signed one of the top QB's in the nation last year (Jordan Steffy)."
Byrd, who is bring recruited at both WR and FS, is one of the state's two nominees for next year's U.S. Army All-America Bowl game, which consists of the nation's top 78 players. He was selected just recently as a member of the Rivals100 team.
