Byers schedules summer visits

Charlotte (N.C.) Vance cornerback Justin Byers has scheduled his summer tour. The 6-foot-0, 172-pounder is planning to visit four schools across the mid-Atlantic.
"At the moment, I've scheduled camps to North Carolina, North Carolina State, Clemson and Virginia Tech," he said. "I'm planning to go to North Carolina on June 12th and 13th. After that I'm going to stop at North Carolina State to get more comfortable with the coaches. Then I'm on to a seven-on-seven camp at Clemson on the 17th and then on July 17th I'm going to Virginia Tech.

"Right now I've got the two offers from North Carolina State and Marshall, but I'm hitting these camps because they all want to see me in person before possibly offering. I chose those three because they are within distance of my parents."
Currently Byers claims the Wolfpack as his lone leader.
"North Carolina State is the only school that I have a scholarship from and once others offer I'll have a better idea of who is in my top three," he said. "I do like them a lot because of coach Portee. I call him almost every week just to see what's going on and he's a cool guy I get along with. I also like their cornerbacks coach Greg Williams a lot because he coached Champ Bailey and obviously knows what he's doing with corners."
With so many schools still on the table, what is Byers looking for out of a school?
"My number one priority is to see if they have the major I want. I want to go into sports medicine," he explained. "Number two is what position I'll play. Most of the schools are looking at me for cornerback, but Virginia Tech wants me as a safety. They actually think I'm a Jimmy Williams type of player. I personally don't have a preference, but I want them to be straight forward about it with me. Finally, I'm looking for a coaching staff that makes me feel like it is my home away from home."
Byers registered 75 tackles and four interceptions on his way to earning all-conference honors as a junior.
