The first tally mark in Dahu Green's scholarship-offer column has arrived. It didn't come from an in-state school, which tend to be the usual suspects when it comes to discovering talent. Instead, it arrived out the blue from a program with which the three-star wide receiver is mostly unfamiliar.
Louisville came knocking Wednesday morning, and while Green was taken off guard, he was also flattered.
"Honestly, it surprised me," Green said. "I'm super excited to have Louisville as my first offer. We talked about my film and talked about the school. Then, they offered. It was surprising.
"I don't know a lot about them, but I know that they have a lot of senior receivers, so that's good for me I guess."
Garrick McGee is handling Green's recruitment for Louisville, and Green plans to visit campus eventually. But while the Cardinals are the first to make things official, it seems unlikely that they'll be the last. Other schools are involved in the process as things stand now. More offers may arrive as the 6-foot-3 receiver starts to travel.
"I'm going to go to junior day at Kansas State on March 1 and I'm supposed to be setting up a junior day at Iowa," Green said. "They are supposed to be sending me some stuff about it. Oklahoma State and Tulsa are on me, too."
Other than the two trips he is already eyeing, Green will take his time plotting travel. He hopes there are more offers to come and feels new interest is about to arrive. The high school junior is in no rush to explore.
For now, he's stuck in the early stages of the recruiting process. Green is still attempting to figure out what he wants out of a school. He takes a long pause before attempting to explain it.
"That's a good question," he said. "I just want to feel comfortable where I am. I want to feel at home. That's the most important thing. That and how people at the school feel about football, I think."
