Butler puts visits on hold

Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward defensive back Tony Butler had planned to announce his college selection at the beginning of this month, but with only one official visit under his belt the three-star has postponed that decision.

"This is a big season for me; my last year at Eds," Butler said. "I've definitely put recruiting on the backburner a little bit, until after the season. After the season I am going to start picking it back up a little more with visits."
St. Edward is currently 7-1 on the season and ranked No. 1 in Ohio's Division I. The state finals are not played until the weekend of Dec. 4, so official visits may not be taken for a couple more months.
"I know I am going to visit Arizona State, Minnesota and Syracuse," Butler said. "There are no dates set up because I don't know how far we are going to get (in the post-season). Hopefully all in December, but I know one will probably have to be planned in January. I really plan on making my decision late December/early January.
"My mom is going to come with me to a couple visits so she can see what I see. She has only been to West Virginia and Clemson with me."
The schools Butler mentioned reside in his top six, along with Rutgers. He made his first official visit with the Scarlet Knights back on Sept. 11.
"It's not the team to beat, but they definitely set the bar," Butler said of Rutgers. "They have been recruiting me hard for six months strong and it's pretty crazy to think I am a necessity to a school like that."
Although Clemson and West Virginia are not in Butler's current official visit plans, either could end up getting his fifth spot.
"It's definitely possible," Butler said. "I really am holding that last one out, see if new schools come around or if I want to visit another school in my top six to revisit and reconnect with the coaches."
Unofficial visits to both Clemson and West Virginia were taken shortly before the start of Butler's senior season, and the Cleveland-area native said both are "definitely still in the picture." He is expecting a visit from West Virginia coaches this week for one of his practices.
