Butler picks Michigan State

MORE: Froholdt crossed an ocean to pursue his dream
Mesquite (Texas) West Mesquite three-star cornerback Josh Butler picked up offers from across the country, and he knew he would make an announcement towards the end of the July.
On July 21, Butler decided it was time to let everyone know where he was going, as he made his commitment to the Michigan State Spartans.
"I just really liked the coaching staff," Butler said. "They're a family that has been here for about to be 11 years now, and their style and scheme really fit me. It's the exact same thing we do in high school, so I know the safety positions, the linebacker positions, and all of that."
Butler had an idea he might commit to the Spartans after doing some extensive research over his options, but there was one point where it all clicked into place on and off the field.
"I decided after I got here and talked to some of the coaches and talked to them about the academics and things like that," Butler said. "They have my major and they're real good at it. I want to major in criminology and they're real big on criminology."
Before making his pledge, Butler was also able to get a good look around the Michigan State campus.
"It was very nice," Butler said. "The campus is huge and the football field, the academic center, and the dorms are right by each other so I won't have to make that far of a walk. It's really close. It's like connected."
Butler chose Michigan State over Boise State in the end, and he is done with the recruiting process except for his official visit to Michigan State.
Before making his decision, Butler was also able to take an unofficial visit to Tennessee with 2016 teammates Dee Anderson and Bailey Phillips. Anderson received an offer from the Volunteers after the visit and Phillips gave Tennessee his commitment.
Butler is Michigan State's 10th commitment of the 2015 recruiting class and the third defensive back. He is currently ranked No. 45 among the nation's cornerbacks and No. 61 in the Rivals.com Preseason Texas Top 100.
