Burroughs is becoming a big name in Georgia

It all started for Jamil Burroughs just a few weeks after his freshman year when he was in Athens. After camping at Georgia, the Bulldogs offered the 6-foot-4, 320 pound defensive lineman a scholarship. Just a few days later, South Carolina offered him when he was on a visit to Columbia.

Burroughs went on to play his sophomore season at Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern where he tallied 63 tackles, 28 tackles for loss and six sacks. He did not add any offers during the season, but now that coaches are back on the road, new offers have rolled in.

Michigan offered a couple of weeks ago, then Alabama pulled the trigger last week. Burroughs thinks Clemson and Ohio State really like him too.

More offers are going to come because Burroughs is one of the top interior defensive linemen in the South right now regardless of class. He is big, he is strong, he is mobile and after the Crimson Tide put their eye on him, they extended an offer.

"Coach Nick Saban came by my school a little over a week ago, then the next week, Alabama offered me," said Burroughs. "It was a big surprise to me. I knew they were interested, but I definitely did not see the offer coming.

"It is a big offer and I really want to get over there for a visit. I went to camp at Alabama when I was 10 years old, but I have not been back since.

"I have interest in them because I love how they play defense, how they are so aggressive and how they are so disciplined. This is a big offer that will just motivate me to work that much harder."

The Wolverine offer even caught Burroughs by more surprise than the one from Alabama. Jim Harbaugh stopped by McEachern and then Burroughs found out about the offer. A visit to Ann Arbor is something he is thinking about, but he does not know much about Michigan yet.

The talented sophomore does know about the Bulldogs and the Gamecocks. He has visited each school on multiple occasions and the crowd impressed him in Columbia.

"It is very loud there on game-day. The South Carolina fans have energy, they are loud and the atmosphere was great. I also have had great communication with coach [Lance] Thompson, so that has been good. He always hits me up, he asks how things are going and things like that. The contact with South Carolina has been great."

Georgia is the school Burroughs grew up following, so the Bulldogs being first to offer combined with what he felt when there stands out to him.

"I just felt at home when I was at Georgia," said Burroughs. "Georgia was my favorite school growing up, so them offering me first was great.

"I like how the coaches care for their players and when I have been there, they have made me feel like I am one of their own. The coaches there are great and I had a good time each time I was there for a game. I went to three of their games this season."

Burroughs did grow up following Georgia and it is the home-state school that is not too far from, but he is not ready to name Georgia or any other school his leader.

He is taking each offer in and taking things slow right now.

"Every offer is a blessing to me," said Burroughs. "I just thank the man above for each offer. I am so blessed and so thankful.

"I am keeping the doors open right now as a recruit. I want to get out to Alabama, I want to see who else offers me and I just want to look at each school.

"I am just enjoying this right now."
