Burnett talks Pac-12 pledge

Deontay Burnett was not a big-named recruit at Gardena (Calif.) Serra last season because it had plenty of receivers but that should change in a big way this year.
Burnett, a three-star prospect by Rivals.com, should be one of the focal points in Serra's offensive attack and he's another prospect who will play in the Pac-12 after his commitment to Washington State on Monday night.

Burnett is not a big name yet but after a tremendous off-season and high expectations this year, things are about to change.
"The coaching staff really liked me," Burnett said of Washington State. "They said I could play right away and they liked the way I play the game. I just felt it was the best fit for me right now.
"Their offense plays a big factor. I'm a receiver and I like to catch the ball. They throw like 70-80 times per game so that played a big role."
Miami, Utah and Colorado State were the three other offers for Burnett, who had been hearing from many Pac-12 schools but offers were slow to come this summer.
The three-star said he was thinking about taking his first trip to Pullman in the next couple weeks but now he might just wait for an official visit.
"I was going to take a visit in two weeks but I'm just going to wait now," Burnett said.
The Serra receiver is perfectly happy with his decision but Burnett said he would consider new offers if they come his way this season. He's expected to have a big year so anything can still happen but he's thrilled about his commitment to Washington State.
"I'm still open," Burnett said. "For right now I wanted to commit to Washington State. Hopefully in the season I can get more offers and discuss things with my parents."
