Burnett having strong off-season

Deontay Burnett might not land offers for a little while but the Gardena (Calif.) Serra receiver is performing well this off-season and has captured the attention of numerous schools.
The three-star wide receiver didn't put up tremendous numbers in his junior season because Serra had so many top prospects on offense but things might pick up in recruiting soon.

The 5-foot-11, 159-pound prospect performed well at the RCS Southern California a few weeks ago and looked good again at the Pylon Sports 7on7 in Las Vegas last weekend.
Teams are taking notice and could pick up major interest soon.
"USC, Cal and UCLA have heard about me doing well so far in 7on7 and at some camps," Burnett said. "It could lead to some offers."
Washington, Washington State, Utah and Burnett said some other Pac-12 programs have also reached out but it's still in the preliminary stages.
A lot of people close to the Serra program are comparing Burnett to Serra standout Jordan Lasley, who signed with UCLA last month.
Lasley hadn't received wide attention early in the recruiting process but things picked up over the spring and summer and during his senior season UCLA, USC and many others were involved. He ended up picking the Bruins.
Burnett could be headed down the same road especially if he continues playing so well.
"Jordan Lasley, I think I could beat his stats for this year," Burnett said. "He told me he got all his offers from doing the circuit."
If Burnett had his choice, USC would come after him much harder. The Serra receiver is open to every program but would pay special attention to the Trojans.
"I like SC a lot," Burnett said.
