College Park (Ga.) North Clayton athlete Morgan Burnett is excited about getting a shot at playing with and against the nation's best.
The 6-foot-1, 182-pounder has been named to the East squad of the inaugural Offense-Defense All-American Bowl. The game will kick off at 5 p.m., Jan. 4, at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and will be televised live by ESPNU.
Rivals.com is the official selection partner of the game.
"I was real excited about it and I was thinking it was an honor to be elected," Burnett said. "I'm just going to go in and compete. I feel I can compete with best."
Burnett, who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.56 seconds, could realistically play a number of positions in college. However, he believes there is one that will allow him to stand out at the next level.
"Free safety," he said. "When I am at free safety, I feel that I play it more naturally."
Burnett is one of four Peach State prospects playing in the game, joining tight end Bailey Woods of Marietta Walton, offensive lineman Antwane Greenlee of Columbus Hardaway and quarterback Cameron Newton of Atlanta Westlake.
"I'm real excited about playing along with the guys from my state because I see so much about them on television and read so much about them on the Internet," Burnett said.
Burnett also is a track standout. He won a region title as a member of North Clayton's 4x400 relay team last year.
Burnett's brother Cap is an assistant coach at North Clayton and has severed as a big influence for Morgan.
"My brother plays a major role in my life," Burnett said. "He's a good role model to me. He teaches me things about the recruiting process. He played at the University of Georgia, but he coaches at my high school."
As far as recruiting goes, Burnett has scheduled three official visits to Georgia Tech (Dec. 8), South Carolina (Dec. 15) and Florida (Jan. 12).
He also is interested in Georgia and Tennessee.
"Right now, everyone is about even," Burnett said.
