Burkhalter finally finds a home

Recently graduated senior receiver Travis Burkhalter of Eufala, Okla., wants to prove everybody wrong.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder was getting some serious attention from Big 12 schools and from schools like Louisiana Monroe, Tulsa and Colorado State during the recruiting season, but signing day came and went without him getting a serious look.

However, the two-star prospect kept positive and kept working hard. That allowed him to finally found a home – a home in the Mountain West.
"I'm on my way back from Wyoming right now," Burkhalter said. "I'm committed to Wyoming and will head up there next semester as a grayshirt. I'll be on scholarship up there next year. The puzzle just fit with Wyoming. It's the right place for me."
Burkhalter was recruited by Cowboy recruiting coordinator Bryan Applewhite.
"I finally got to put a face with the voice," Burkhalter said. "He's a real laid back coach. He kept it real with me the whole time. He told me what was going on and how I originally came up on their board. They're going to put me at receiver, even though I played quarterback in high school. I kind of wanted to play on offense.
"They lost a couple of good receivers, and I'm really hoping to make my mark at Receiver U."
Wyoming has also landed another 2006 commitment from Moorpark (Cailf.) Junior College cornerback Troy Lewis. The 5-foot-8, 170-pounder is an explosive corner that should see the field right away for the Cowboys.
