Bumpus Stays in the Pac 10

Culver City (Calif.) wide out Michael Bumpus committed to USC a few months back but decided to sign his letter of intent with Washington State.
"We love USC but it just didn't work out for us," Renee Bumpus, Michael's mother told us on Tuesday. "We're sad to be leaving USC but at the same time, Michael is very excited to be going to Washington State. That was his number two choice all along and our family fell in love with Coach Doba. We feel Washington State is the place where Michael's skills will be best utilized and it's just a good fit academically for him."

There had been rumors for the last month that Bumpus, 6-0, 175 pounds and USC were going in a different direction. Washington State as well as Arizona State, where the wide out also visited, had stayed on Bumpus ever since he committed and it paid off in the end for the Cougars.
"I can't stress this enough, we really have no hard feelings against USC," Renee said. "They were great to us and I'm still going to keep all the USC gear we bought. I just have to go out now and buy a bunch of Washington State gear to balance it out."
