Buffs land another

Following his visit to Colorado this past weekend, Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde defensive back Jonathan Hawkins was asked if he had committed to the Buffs along with his teammate, Deandre Reed. Hawkins said he had yet to do so but after talking with him again a few minutes ago, he's singing a different tune.
"Yeah, I committed on the visit," Hawkins said. "I didn't want it to get out yet because I wanted to wait to see what happens with Coach Barnett's contract. I know it comes up at the end of the year and he told us all on the visit that by the end of the month, he should know if he's coming back. I definitely want to go to Colorado and that's what I'm planning to do but I also didn't want to do anything to scare off other colleges in the event he doesn't come back.

"I feel very good about Colorado though. I got to be close with not only coach Barnett but a lot of the assistant coaches too. Coach Cabral and coach Bray were the ones that were recruiting me and as long as they stay, I'll be going to Colorado. It's a great place and I felt comfortable there ever since I camped with them in the summer."
Hawkins plays both safety and corner for Rancho but said he was recruited to play corner for the Buffs.
"That's what I want to do as well," Hawkins said. "I have good size and speed and long arms so I think I'll be able to come in there and play early. I also can hit and I play physical so I think the Big 12 is a good fit for me since it's a tough, physical conference and everyone has to be able to hit."
