Buffs keeping top talent at home

Junior to Watch: Ryan Walters
School: Aurora (Colo.) Grandview
Position: Quarterback
Size and Speed: Walters is 6-foot and 190-pounds. He has also been timed at 4.52 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
Statistics: Despite missing half of Grandview's season with a torn meniscus, Walters threw for 1,582 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior. He also ran for 478 yards and 11 scores.
Honors: Walters earned second team all-conference honors as a junior.
Favorite Schools: Walters has committed to Gary Barnett's Colorado Buffaloes.
Skinny: It didn’t take long after Colorado extended a scholarship offer for one of the top players in Colorado to say yes and end the recruiting process.
"They offered me a scholarship and basically told me if I would accept then I would be the only quarterback they would recruit and they would tell the other guys they were looking at the same thing," Walters said. "It made me feel good to be wanted that much by this coaching staff."
Walters chose the Buffaloes over Colorado State, Virginia, UCLA, Arizona State and Oregon.
"The coaches at all of the schools were really good about things the whole way," he said. "They were writing me letters telling me how I could be a part of their program and help them out. I just felt like Colorado was the place for me."
Walters injured his knee during his junior campaign, but is nearly 100 percent after rehabilitating the injury.
"I'm nearly back to normal. My speed is getting back there, to where I am used to it being. I've been working on my strength a lot to get it to where it needs to be. I am still taking it a little bit easy in lifting when it comes to my legs, but I'm about there."
