Buechele stands strong

Rivals100 quarterback Shane Buechele committed to the Texas Longhorns in February and he has not looked back since.
He chose the Longhorns over offers from Oklahoma, TCU, Texas Tech, Ole Miss, and Kentucky. His commitment remains as strong today as the day he made it, and other teams already know where he stands.

"No, I haven't heard from anybody. I think a lot of schools know I'm a Longhorn and will be," Buechele said. "I think it's pretty well known, but a lot of those coaches know. I still keep in touch with some coaches just because, but I'm a Longhorn."
As the quarterback in the Longhorns' 2016 recruiting class, Buechele is also a leader on the recruiting trail. For Buechele it is less about recruiting and more about building strong relationships.
"I did commit early and I do want to get this recruiting class going," Buechele said. "I know coach Strong's thing is being patient with the process and letting these kids go through it and I believe in the same thing. I don't want to push these guys to make a decision that's not their own. I think that's the worst thing you can do is push a kid one way and that just overall brings them to not want to go to that school.
"For me personally I just let them do them. I talk to them every once in awhile to see how their day is going or how their football season is going. But I don't talk to them from a recruiting aspect like saying Texas is the greatest school in the nation and the best football team in the nation and blah, blah, blah because that's not what they want to hear. They want to make friends through this process and they already hear it from the coaches up there at the schools they're getting recruited from.
"I'm recruiting people but I try to stay on the down low about it and just try to maintain these friendships that I'm trying to get."
The Longhorns' 2015 season has gotten off to a rough start, but Buechele sees a lot of promise. He keeps in constant contact with the Texas staff, and sees progress on the field.
"I have a great relationship with coach Watson and I always have, and it keeps getting better every time I talk to him and go down there," Buechele said. "Every trip I take down there it gets better and better, and I'm getting a better relationship with coach Norvell. I knew him when he was at Oklahoma whenver I got recruited by them, and since he's come here we've built a relationship. Coach Traylor and coach Rob and all the coaches reach out to me, and I really enjoy that they're taking the time to talk to me and build these relationships. So coaching staff-wise I love them. I can't say anything bad about them.
"The overall season, how the offense has been, they're scoring points. They're moving the ball down the field and Jerrod (Heard) is doing a great job of throwing the ball vertically and he's spreading the ball out too. The offense is doing all they can do with their personnel right now. I know the TCU game was a little bit rough, but TCU is also a top five team and they're a great team. I'm excited to see what they can put together against OU, who is another good team, and see how they come out. I bet they're going to come out with some fire from last week's loss, and I'm definitely excited to see them play this next week."
Buechele is unsure whether or not he will be able to attend the Red River Rivalry. His father, Steve Buechele, is the bench coach for the Texas Rangers, and it is his off day. Whether Buechele is able to attend or not, he will be paying close attention.
"I haven't talked to many recruits about this game, but I'm definitely looking forward to seeing it. I know this season hasn't really gone the Longhorns' way and in my opinion the Longhorns should be 3-2 right now. They should've won the two games that had special teams problems. I wish their season could be better but I think they're going to come up this game like they always do every season. But this game means a lot to them and I'm definitely excited to watch this Red River Rivalry."
Buechele is also excited about his current situation at Arlington Lamar. The senior quarterback has completed 71 of 109 passes for 1,013 yards, 12 touchdowns, and only two interceptions. He has also rushed for 205 yards and another score on 39 carriers. Of course the main thing is Lamar has a 4-1 record through the first five games of the 2015 season.
"So far this season has been a good one," Buechele said. "We've lost one game and we were in it until the third quarter. We just kind of fell apart offensively and defensively so I'm kind of upset about that one. But overall it's been a great year and hopefully we can finish up the season well."
Next up for Buechele and the Lamar Vikings is Fort Worth Paschal on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
