Buckeyes solidify spot with Thomas

Four-star 2017 cornerback Ambry Thomas of Detroit (Mich.) King has held an offer from Ohio State since April, but did not make his first visit to the school until Friday.
Thomas was one of several dozen prospects with offers who took part in Ohio State's Friday Night Lights Camp.

"This was actually my first time out here and I love the facilities. It just jumped out at me," Thomas said. "Then, the way Coach (Kerry) Coombs coaches - he coaches aggressive and I like that."
Friday's camp allowed Thomas to get a strong feel for Coombs' style, and he received positive feedback from the Buckeye's defensive backs coach.
"He actually said he loves everything about me today," Thomas said. "I don't know why but they tried to test me on the deep ball (Friday) and I shut it down. He said I was doing real good."
A college decision is still well off in the future for Thomas, but he already knows Ohio State will be in the discussion when that time comes.
"They're going to be top three in the future for sure," Thomas said. "Coach Coombs, he is a wonderful guy. I like the way he coaches his DBs, and I'm just feeling (Ohio State)."
Prior to camping with Ohio State Friday night, Thomas and several other Detroit area prospects made a stop by West Virginia's campus.
"When we got there the coaches were gone because they had paintball with their players," Thomas said. "There was a recruiting guy who showed us around their facilities. I liked it and I like (the state of) West Virginia also. I've actually been to West Virginia a few times. I used to have family there, but they moved."
Thomas does know a soon-to-be resident of the state because his teammate Martell Pettaway is committed to the Mountaineers in the 2016 class. That connection will also allow him to make several more visits to West Virginia in the coming months.
"Since Martell committed there I am going to be riding with him a lot and checking them out this season," Thomas said.
Detroit King is about to start preparations for their 2015 season, but Thomas has one more trip scheduled before he finishes out the summer.
"I'm going to Pitt next week. I was supposed to go (Friday)," he said. "I just want to get to know the coaches a little more and get that comfortable vibe."
The 5-foot-11, 165-pound Thomas is ranked as the No. 133 player in the 2017 class. He heads into his junior season after recording six interceptions as a sophomore.
