Buckeyes enter mix for Florida TE/DE

Sarasota (Fla.) Booker tight end/defensive end Chris Zellner has picked up a new major scholarship offer and is seeing interest rise with a few other top programs.
“I got an official offer from Ohio State recently,” he said. “They were the last one to offer me. I’m also starting to get some calls from Tennessee, FSU and Miami, so things are going pretty good right now.”

Asked how he felt about the Buckeyes’ offer, Zellner said: “That’s big-time. They’re the national champions. It’s hard to get much better than that. They also have a need for players at my position, so I like the opportunity they’re going to have for me.”
A college decision, however, is still a long way off.
“I’m not really close to singling out anyone right now,” Zellner said. “I need to set up my official visits so I can learn more about them. I know Ohio State will probably be one of them. Pittsburgh might be one. But nothing’s for certain right now. It’s a hard decision for me.”
Zellner (6-2, 230, 4.58) also has offers from Clemson, Iowa, Iowa State, North Carolina, Indiana, UConn, Maryland, Pittsburgh and South Florida.
He’s made unofficial visits to USF, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Clemson this season. He plans to attend the Miami-Florida State showdown this weekend in Tallahassee.
Zellner has helped lead Booker to a 5-0 record this season. He’s caught eight passes for 150 yards and three touchdowns on the offensive side of the ball while recording five sacks and three fumble recoveries on defense.
He says he's being evaluated as both a tight end and defensive end by most of the schools on his list.
Academically, he carries a 3.1 GPA and has scored a 920 on the SAT.
