Brown taking things slow

According to inside linebacker Richie Brown of Long Beach (Miss.), his speed often catches people off guard.
"I think sometimes they'll see my times on a website, but they doubt that a white linebacker can run that fast," Brown said.

How fast is he?
"I ran a 4.39 [40-yard dash] at Ole Miss," Brown said. "The next day, I ran a 4.40 at Southern Miss. I also made it to state in track."
To date, the 6-foot-2, 207-pounder has offers from Arkansas State, Kentucky, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Southern Miss and Stanford. Right now, no team stands out.
"I'm completely neutral for now," he said. "I'm probably going to save [a decision] for December. Sometime in December or January I'll have it all figured out. I'm not going to rush it at all. I'll probably have a top five during the season."
Thus far, Brown has visited LSU, Memphis, Mississippi, Mississippi State and Southern Miss this summer. In addition to attending upcoming camps at Auburn, LSU and Mississippi State, he said he may check out Miami or Nebraska. An official this fall to Stanford also is possible.
The July 22 Mississippi State visit will be Brown's fourth to Starkville. The Bulldogs were the first program to offer, and he hasn't forgotten that.
"That's a big deal," he said. "They realized my potential."
Who's recruiting Brown the hardest?
"Probably the three Mississippi schools," he said. "MSU for sure. They've really been recruiting me hard. Stanford also. And Miami, too. They just haven't offered yet. They haven't seen me [in person]. But they've been keeping in touch with me."
