First and 10: Prospects who look like locks
BEAUMONT, Texas -- Tony Brown knows how to keep an audience on the edge of its seats, whether it is on the football field, the track or pretty much anywhere else.
Like he does going into each football game or track meet, the five-star defensive back had a plan of action as the American Family Insurance Selection Tour for the Under Armour All-America Game stopped at Clifton J. Ozen High School.
Known for his trendsetting hair and stylish fashion sense off the field, Brown has set the bar high, and he began thinking about what he would wear for his presentation ceremony long before the day arrived. It was a special occasion, and he had to do it right.
He did not disappoint as he held up the Under Armour All-America jersey, put it on and stepped to the podium with his bow tie front and center.
"First off, I would like to thank Under Armour and American Family Insurance for presenting me this amazing opportunity today. This precedes the opportunity to participate in one of the most highly sought-out games in high school. So thank you," Brown said. "I'm just extremely blessed to be playing this game on Jan. 2.
"I would also like to thank my mom, my dad and my uncle for always being there, and I will use this game as a farewell to my high school career to go on to bigger and better things. I would just like to finish this season with a state championship before I go off to the Under Armour game."
Family has been key to Brown's success on and off the field. Life has not always been easy, but they have been there to give him guidance and support. They have been there to encourage athletic dreams and goals that have always been set high. One of those dreams was to play in the Under Armour All-America Game.
Brown has had the game circled for a few years, and he knew right away it was an achievable goal.
"When I saw the game with Quandre Diggs and Jadeveon Clowney a couple of years ago, I liked the uniforms and the helmets a lot," Brown said. "As soon as I saw it, I knew I was going to play in the game. There was no doubt in my mind."
Always hungry for competition, Brown is excited about the opportunity to shut down the best wide receivers the country has to offer in Florida before going to college to start a new chapter in life.
Where that chapter will begin has yet to be decided, and it is the subject of much speculation. He recently attended the Texas A&M-Alabama game in College Station and came away impressed with the Aggies. He could make his way to Baton Rouge for Saturday's LSU-Auburn game. Both programs have been heavily discussed as possible destinations, and while Brown has not named leaders there was talk of him narrowing his list to six. For now, he has put those plans on hold.
"I have to finish the clearinghouse before I consider going on any official visits, so I have to finish that," Brown said. "After the clearinghouse is finished, I'll have a conversation with my mom, and if she says it's OK for me to release it then it will be released."
As usual, Brown keeps the audience on the edge of its seats, waiting to see what he will do next, and he cannot wait to do the same in Florida as an Under Armour All-American.
