HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – Amon-Ra St. Brown is a five-star prospect and the top-rated wide receiver in the 2018 class.
He also has a major decision ahead of him since the Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei standout has not committed to a school yet.
St. Brown is in a unique position, too, watching his two older brothers navigate through the hectic and stressful recruiting process and learning so much along the way.
“I learned a lot from both of them,” St. Brown said last weekend at the Battle at the Beach 7v7. “I got to see Equanimeous go through the whole process, him getting his first offer and going to camps, talking to coaches, visiting schools. I visited some schools with him so I was with him through the whole thing.
“Me being the youngest, I know a few things about schools and what to look for and what to look out for when I’m choosing my school. I got to learn from both of them and a clear view on what to do.”
His oldest brother, Equanimeous, was a four-star receiver in the 2015 class who signed with Notre Dame. The middle brother, Osiris, was a four-star in 2017 who picked Stanford.
Amon-Ra St. Brown is the best of the bunch and is fully engulfed in a recruiting process that should only ramp up as National Signing Day gets closer. Seeing his brothers experience things should only be beneficial in the coming months.
Stanford, Notre Dame, USC, UCLA, Michigan and Ohio State remain the serious contenders for St. Brown, who absolutely dominated the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge presented by adidas earlier this summer.
“The first time you hear all this stuff, for Equanimeous, it all sounded good to him,” St. Brown said. “Now I know when they’re telling the truth and when they’re not. That’s helped me.”
Unsurprisingly, Equanimeous is pushing the Irish and Osiris is all about Stanford with their kid brother, the five-star phenom who is almost unstoppable in one-on-one situations.
For the Mater Dei star, playing with one of his brothers would be great. Carving out his own path would be something special as well.
“They want me to go to Stanford and Notre Dame but they’re going to support whatever I do because they understand I’m going to do what’s best for me,” St. Brown said. “They’ll be happy for me if I go to Stanford or Notre Dame or any other school so they’re supporting me.
“It would be kind of cool to go to Stanford and play with Osiris or even Notre Dame if Equanimeous decides to stay another year and play with him. It would be cool to play with one of them but at the same time it would be cool to go to a different school and do my own thing.”
As for upcoming visits, St. Brown said he could go over to UCLA but no out-of-state trips are expected. No official visits have been locked in yet but he fully expects to see Stanford and Notre Dame this fall.
No surprise there. Nothing like having your brother on campus to show you the ropes.
