Germantown (Md.) Seneca Valley linebacker Jourdon Brooks is closing in on a decision in the next few weeks. The 6-foot-1, 247-pounder is down to three schools and visited one of them this past weekend.
"I'm down to Tennessee, Rutgers and Syracuse, they are my top three," he said. "I'd say I really like Tennessee a lot. They are my favorite one right now.
"I'm on my way back from an unofficial there. I saw them play LSU and the fans were into the game and the atmosphere was great. I was able to talk to a couple of the players including Wade and Hardesty. They told me how their school is the best in the nation and they have good academics. They think it'd be a really good school for me to go to."
While in Knoxville, Brooks met with most of the Volunteer coaching staff.
"I got to talk to Phillip Fulmer, coach Slade, Roper and more," he said. "I got a good feel for them and we talked about taking an official visit back up there in December.
"My conversation with coach Fulmer was really good. He told me he'd love to have me be the next Jamal Lewis. That was a confidence boost about my athletic ability and I really like that they want me for offense, that's what I've wanted all along."
Meanwhile, what does the three-star prospect think of Rutgers and Syracuse?
"Both of them have always been in touch with me and I talk to them regularly," he stated. "They always ask how I'm doing in school and keep up with me after every game. It makes me feel good. I did already take a visit to Syracuse, but I'm looking at one to Rutgers in December."
Although he claims he's looking at visiting schools in December, Brooks appears to be close to a decision.
"I'm trying to make my decision in the next couple weeks," he said. "I want to sit down with my parents and see where I want to go and get it done."
