Brodie wraps up camps

After a solid performance at Virginia Tech a couple weeks ago, Chesapeake (Va.) Western Branch running back Hykeem Brodie has gone to two more camps. Where has the 5-foot-11, 196-pounder been and what's next for him?
"I went to ECU last week and then Sunday through Wednesday I was at Penn State," he said. "I did well at the camp at ECU. Their coaches said they are going to wait and come to one of my games this fall.

"As for Penn State, I did well at their camp too. All their running back coach said was that he liked me and was glad I made it up there. He told me he'd stay in touch. He seemed really interested."
With those two camps behind him, is Brodie heading anywhere else.
"I'm not going to anymore," he said. "Instead I'm focusing in on my season and getting ready for passing tournaments. I want to get back to my footwork and concentrate on my team and getting us to state.
"I think I did well this summer and have Virginia Tech, Penn State and ECU looking at me hard. They are all waiting, but I'm not too worried about the offers. They'll come in time, now it's time for work."
Brodie is looking to have a big season in hopes of impressing recruiters.
"I want to focus on my speed," he said. "People continue to say I lack breakaway speed, but I know I've shown these people at camps I have it. I worked hard and got my speed where I want it. Now I just want to continue to improve on it."
