Brewer focused on five

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Bartram Trail cornerback Xavier Brewer, a pre-evaluation Rivals100 selection, currently is focused on a list of five programs and there is an excellent chance that one of the quintet will land the standout defensive back before in the end.
"I got my top five set, so I am just waiting for summer so I can get some unofficial visits in and then take some official visits," Brewer said. "Florida, Clemson, Miami (Fla.), Alabama and LSU are my top five."

Brewer has been to Gainesville several times and the Gators are in the thick of things.
"They are defending National Champions," he said. "(Florida head coach) Urban Meyer is a great guy. I got a chance to go there and meet him. I also got the chance to meet Chuck Heater, the position coach. He's a good guy and will give me a chance to get to the next level."
Brewer likes Florida's defensive scheme.
"They play a lot of press man," he said. "That's good. I like that."
Brewer is high on Clemson for a number of reasons. His high school teammate is heading to Tigertown and a recent unofficial visit vaulted Clemson into his top group.
"(Bartram Trail quarterback) Kyle Parker is definitely recruiting me to go up there with him," he said. "He always is. We went up there a month ago (for Clemson's spring game) and I liked it up there. I also liked what they did on defense."
Several things stood out about the atmosphere on campus.
"The stadium is so big and I know they sell out every game," Brewer said. "I can't wait to go to a game there."
Rivals.com's 2006 Atlantic Coast Conference Recruiter of the Year Dabo Swinney is recruiting Brewer for the Tigers.
Brewer has made an unofficial visit to Miami and came away impressed with the Canes.
"Miami is definitely coming back," he said. "They are going to be back to the old days. I went to their practice and they are moving around and flying around the football."
The Hurricanes new head coach left an impression with Brewer.
"Coach Randy Shannon really stood out," he said. "Just talking to him and seeing how he really was was impressive."
The head coach at Alabama also is a selling point, though Brewer has not yet been to Tuscaloosa.
"(Tide head coach) Nick Saban is a real good cornerbacks guy," Brewer said. "He likes to coach the defensive backs during practice. I haven't been there yet, but that's one of the visits I am waiting on."
Kirby Smart is recruiting Brewer for Alabama.
"He's the cornerbacks coach," Brewer said. "He's a real good guy who is down to earth. I like talking to him and I can tell he can do a lot of things as a coach."
LSU rounds out his list. Doug Mallory is recruiting Brewer for the Tigers.
"I just like the way they play defense," he said. "They are real tenacious and they get after it."
The bottom line on Brewer is that he's going to pick the school he feels the best about.
"I'm just looking for the place I feel comfortable," he said. "I'm going to be there 4-5 years. I am also going to be looking at what school will help me reach my goal of going to the NFL."
