Breland wondered if many scouts outside of his immediate area in
southern Mississippi were aware of him.
That's starting to change as he enters the summer camp scene.
"Here lately, it's really picked up," said the 6-foot-2, 305-pound lineman
from Picayune High School. "I'm getting a lot of mail, hearing from a lot of
different coaches. Colorado, Kentucky and Marshall have all contacted me this
month. I'm really happy to hear from them."
Breland has yet to receive an official scholarship offer, but hopes to
address that with a strong showing at three summer camps -- Southern Miss,
Mississippi State and Tulane.
He said his current favorite schools are Mississippi State, Memphis, Kentucky
and Jackson State. Ideally, he added, he'd love to play in the Southeastern
Conference.
"Mississippi State is a program I've followed for a long time," he said.
"It's close to home, and they've produced some good offensive linemen, had a lot
of guys go on to the next level. I think I'd fit in well.
"Kentucky is one I've been hearing from a lot the last month or so. I like
that, another SEC school with the potential to have a good program. I'd like to
make a visit there and hopefully get an offer."
Breland (5.2 forty, 310 bench, 505 squat) projects as an offensive guard on
the college level. He graded out at 95 percent as a junior, describing himself
as a "power and attack" blocker.
He's also solid in the classroom, maintaining "all As and Bs" and posting a
17 on his first ACT. He wants to pursue a degree in education and become a
teacher/coach in the future.
