BREAKING: Louisiana DB Major Burns commits to Texas A&M

Texas A&M’s celebrated Super Bowl Watch Party has yielded a major out-of-state commitment.

Major Burns, a 3-star defensive back from Madison Prep (La.) in Baton Rouge, La., has committed to the Aggies while on a multi-day unofficial visit in College Station. The 6-foot-3, 174-pounder selected Texas A&M over offered from Mississippi State, Florida State and Notre Dame, among others.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

“We’re just going to go with a national championship, nothing less.”

“The people down here, outside of football and in the community, everybody is showing love. The graduation rate … I feel like this is somewhere I can thrive at.”

“They got this mentality coming in with a chip on their shoulder, and I like that. You have nothing to lose here at Texas A&M. We ain’t backing down from anyone. They gave me that vibe through their conversations.”

“I make all my decisions through God, and whatever decision I make through God won’t go wrong. The Aggies gave me a great feeling -- like I’m home -- and I would not waste my time anywhere else. I’m committed.”

RIVALS REACTION

Landing Burns out of The Boot is a major get early on for Texas A&M’s 2020 recruiting cycle. After landing 5-star Erick Young as part of the 2019 cycle, Jimbo Fisher is already retooling his secondary with another fantastic add in Burns, who is long and rangy and very physical lining up against talented receivers.

Texas A&M was an offer that instantly intrigued Burns, along with Florida State, Notre Dame and Mississippi State. The 3-star had intended to visit those other campuses, but he insisted his recruitment is already over with 11 months before the Early Signing Period.

Should Burns stick, it’s a major out-of-state pull for the Aggies, who are bringing on a physically gifted corner that can also play safety, will help against the run and play with a uniquely tough attitude as they look to take over the SEC West.
