Breaking: Cohen commits to Carolina over other SEC schools

Many new offers rolled in Javion Cohen since we moved into 2019.

The offensive tackle out of Phenix City (Ala.) Central added offers from Alabama, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Texas A&M the last couple of months, but South Carolina, who offered late in January pressed all the right buttons.

Cohen has committed to Will Mushamp and he is excited about his future as a Gamecock.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

"It hit me Sunday that South Carolina was the school for me," said Cohen. "I sat down, thought over all the schools, and I could tell you something I didn't like about them, but with South Carolina, there was nothing I didn't like.

"I knew right then that it was time call coach Muschamp and commit. It hit me, and I knew it, so I had to get coach Muschamp on the phone.

"I called him right after he left the Duke vs. UCF basketball game and after I told him of my decision, he said, 'that is the best news I have heard this year.' That means a lot coming from him. He was very excited about my call.

"For me, communication is key. Coach Muschamp and coach [Eric] Wolford stayed in contact with me and I have been talking to them every day. I like the program, the strength and conditioning program and there is a real opportunity for me to play there. I like everything about South Carolina. Them playing in the SEC stands out too.

"It was extremely hard to get to this point, but I know I chose the right school at the right time. I committed to South Carolina over Alabama, Tennessee and Texas A&M. My whole family likes Alabama, so passing them up was not easy, but I had to make the best decision. In my stomach, I new where I need to be.

"It is happy times for me now. It is a lot different now than it was for me this time last week. I am committed and it feels good to put my head to rest knowing where my future will be.

"Most of my time now will go towards the work at Central as we try to win another state title, but I am also going to recruit for South Carolina. I am going to work on Alabama commit Seth McLaughlin, Arkansas commit Ze'Vian Capers, keeping Issiah Walker there and things like that. I am ready to recruit now."

RIVALS REACTION

Cohen said when he committed that he was done with recruiting and he is very strong to South Carolina. He plans to visit Columbia for the third time next month. The vibe there and the family feel really got him. He is a lineman who has re-shaped his body, has shown good feet and he is a versatile lineman due to his size, strength and agility. He anchored the offensive line for a state championship team last season, so he is a winner and not many will work harder.
