Brantley has more than a dozen scholarship offers. Some of the schools mentioned in connection with him are Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma and Alabama. In recent weeks, he has made unofficial visits to Austin, Texas, and Tuscaloosa, Ala., for unofficial visits.
Georgia Tech, Louisville, N.C. State and Tennessee also are among the schools that have offered him a scholarship.
According to his father, also named John, the family is just getting back from vacation and came to a final decision while they were away from home.
"We're just ready to get this behind us," the elder Brantley said. "And focus on spring practice and winning another state championship."
Brantley threw for 2,835 yards and 41 touchdowns in leading his team to a state title his junior season. His father played quarterback for Florida in the late 1970s and he plays for former Gator quarterback Kerwin Bell at Trinity Catholic.
