Brandon Hawkins on recent offers, commitment timeline

FT. WORTH, Tx. -- Georgetown, Texas, linebacker Brandon Hawkins has enjoyed an active recruitment this spring, and took the opportunity to visit the campus of one his latest offers over the weekend.

Hawkins visited SMU ahead of his appearance in Sunday’s Lone Star Prospects Showcase event at North Crowley High School. The Mustangs are one of the latest in a recent wave of offers that also includes Colorado State, Houston and Tulane.

He said that all the attention over the spring from others has even piqued the interest Texas A&M, who Hawkins said he’s followed since his younger years.

“They’ve come by and I think they are going to come by again,” he said. “I think Coach (John) Chavis is going to come by in the spring.”

IN HIS WORDS

Recapping his visit to SMU

“I came up early and I went to visit them,” he said. “They’re trying to turn the program around, that’s great. The thing that stood out most to me was just the culture they have out there. They do things the right way.”

On Houston

“Their big sales pitch to me was to look at all the players that were on the stage at the Heisman Trophy presentation and how successful they were against the finalists,” he said.

“I haven’t been out there yet, but it’s just a day-trip,” he said. “When I get there, I’ll definitely be interested in talking about playing time, that’s huge for me.”

RIVALS REACTION

Hawkins said that after this visit to SMU, he is interested in making a return over the summer. Also new was his look, as Hawkins has parted ways with the long hair he was sporting during his appearance in the Rivals Three Stripe Camp presented by Adidas. During this time of year, could a connection to him also cutting down his offer list be made?

“I definitely would like to be committed by the start of the season,” he said. “I just want to wait until the end of spring to see which offers I have and which others come in. I’ll take some visits in the early summer and will be committed as soon as I can be.”
