Beau Boyster said he was excited to hear the news that Arizona hired Rich Rodriguez as its new coach Monday and he's looking forward to talking to him and especially seeing which assistants are hired.
"I am really excited that Arizona was able to find a head coach this quickly," Boyster said. "With that being said Rich Rod seems like a great guy who was very successful at West Virginia."
The three-star center from Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco committed to the Wildcats in late April and said this week that he plans to visit Oregon, TCU and Illinois to make sure he made the right decision.
Boyster is expected to visit Oregon on Dec. 9 and then Illinois the following weekend. A date for TCU has not been determined yet. He said the Illini have emerged as a favorite but that he's still committed to Arizona.
Now that Rodriguez has been hired, Boyster said he's looking forward to seeing how the staff comes together and what the new coach envisions for the future. He was expected a decision at the end of the season so the timing is good for him.
Boyster, rated as the fourth-best center in the 2012 class and No. 64 in the California state rankings by Rivals.com, seems pretty happy Rodriguez got the job.
"I think that's a great hire," Boyster said.
"I was not able to talk to him yet but (Arizona athletics director) Greg Byrne said that he will probably give me a call.
"I am very interested to see who the assistants will be. As of right now I know as much as everyone else about the job and everything like that."
St. John Bosco defeated Mission Hills (Calif.) Alemany in the first round of the playoffs last weekend. It faces one-loss San Clemente on Friday night.
