Boyd sets first official visit

Lee's Summit (Mo.) West defensive end Jamone Boyd made the jump to four stars in the post-summer ratings update. The 6-foot-4, 245-pound defensive end is one of the more highly recruited prospects in the Show Me State, and has set his first official visit of the fall.
"I am going to take my first official to Arkansas when they play Alabama [Sept. 15]," Boyd said. "I am taking a couple of friends with me - Nick Ramirez, Zach Hannon and I think Michael Holt too."

Arkansas was one of the schools Boyd unofficially visited over the summer, and that trip to Fayetteville piqued his interest in the Razorbacks further.
"I liked the atmosphere and my position coach reminded me of the coach I have right now," Boyd said.
Boyd plans to set up his remaining official visits one at a time. Oklahoma State, Nebraska and Missouri were three schools Boyd said were likely to be on the receiving end of future official visits.
Besides Arkansas, Boyd also made unofficial visits to Kansas and Missouri over the summer and came away feeling good about each visit he took, but heads into the fall without a leader.
"I'm just keeping all my options open for right now," Boyd said. "I am going to make my decision after my last game."
Boyd's first game of his senior year takes place this Saturday in a nationally televised tilt against Staley High. Boyd is expecting bigger things out of his senior campaign than he showed as a junior.
"Last year I was more of a pass rush guy, but now I am both run and pass," he said. "I improved a lot with my run game [defense]."
