Recruiting can't be going much better for Gerald Bowman, a 6-foot-1, 210-pound safety from Woodland Hills (Calif.) Pierce C.C. who's picked up a new offer from Ole Miss and is starting to talk more with Oklahoma and Arkansas.
Bowman had started to e-mail back and forth with an Ole Miss coach and then he was informed that an offer was on the way.
It's another big one for Bowman, who also has Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Colorado, Oregon State, South Florida, Utah and West Virginia on his list.
"That's another big opportunity to take my talents somewhere and do what I do," Bowman said. "That opportunity sounds great.
"It's relatively new. The coach got in contact through e-mail and I responded back and I didn't hear back for a week and then he e-mailed me back and said they're going to offer me a scholarship. I gave him a call and talked to him for about 10 minutes and it's gone from there."
Oklahoma also seems mighty interested but the Sooners' coaching staff said because their scholarships are limited they might hold off for a little bit before offering. Still, Oklahoma has been in lots of contact and Bowman things the chances are good that it will offer at some point.
"I've been in contact with coach (Brent) Venables," Bowman said.
"I recently spoke with the defensive backs coach, Willie Martinez, and he told me they're slow to offer, they don't have a lot of scholarships this year, and before they could offer me a scholarship he wanted to get to know me personally. From my film, everybody gave me the green light."
Bowman, who attended UCLA's spring practice on Thursday and was at USC last week, hasn't talked with any Arkansas coaches yet but his coach at Pierce told him the Razorbacks are close to offering so he's excited about that, too.
"I haven't even talked to Arkansas but my head coach shot me a message and said Arkansas is going to offer," Bowman said. "That's the same situation that I'm still waiting on them. I'm definitely excited."
