Boston College lands Midwest LB Hugh Davis

Boston College has had great success over the years tapping into the Midwest pool of linebacker talent, and they re-stocked the cupboard with another one when Indianapolis (Ind.) Cathedral three-star Hugh Davis announced his commitment to the Eagles on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Davis picked up his first offer early in his sophomore year from the home-state Indiana Hoosiers, and they were listed as a favorite for much of the last year. In early May, though, Davis revised his top schools list and Indiana was no longer in the mix. Remaining were Boston College, Cincinnati and Syracuse. The Bearcats were also listed as a favorite for several months, but Boston College, which offered in March and subsequently hosted Davis for an unofficial visit, emerged as the victor when the Indianapolis native announced his decision Friday night.

IN HIS WORDS

“I chose Boston College because they have a great coaching staff, great education, the opportunity to play early is present and I want to continue the greatness of this historic program.”

RIVALS’ REACTION

Boston College has had great success with Midwest linebackers, perennial all-pro Luke Kuechly and 2015’s leading tackler Steven Daniels among them. There is every reason to think Davis will be a fine continuation of that tradition for the Eagles. Although a little undersized at 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds, Davis fits well into that WILL linebacker role where he is very comfortable in space, but also has the aggressiveness and tenacity to come up and be an asset in run support. The Indianapolis area is also rising as a Division I talent producing region, and Boston College getting another foot in the door there could serve them well in the future.
