THE LATEST

Florida defensive back Keion Smith has seen his recruitment take off since the calendar flipped to 2019, with several Power Five schools joining his list. With so many new options on his list, Smith is making it a priority to get out on the road and see some of his new suitors. This weekend, he's in New England to check out Boston College and soon he's planning on heading to Minnesota soon. Rivals.com recently caught up with Smith to get the latest on his recruitment.

IN HIS WORDS

“Minnesota and Boston College have been the schools consistently talking to me the most. I have some visits coming up. I'm at Boston College March 14-17 and I’m going to get up to Minnesota soon, too.”

Boston College: “I’m going with Andy Garcia and we are going up there for a few days so we can get a feel for it. I’m expecting to see a great campus and I really want to get a chance to sit down with the coaching staff and get to know them.”

On why visiting BC is a priority: “I know that’s probably the top school that’s the most interested in me, so I’m ready to get up there and see it.”

On relationship with the coaching staff: “I’ve been talking to Coach White, the running backs coach, he used to coach at Florida and now he recruits down here. He told me he really likes the way I play and he wants me to get up there and get a feel for it. He’s one of the coaches who is great at keeping in contact with me and letting me know how bad they want me.”

Minnesota: “The defensive backs coach loves me. He’s actually from down here in South Florida. We talk every week. He likes my versatility as a defensive back. He knows I can cover the slot, go out wide or even play safety. He’s from Lauderhill and he knows the type of players that come from there and he thinks I can be big for them. We relate pretty well.”

Knowledge of the program: “I had never really heard about Minnesota that much before they offered me but I’m going up there pretty soon for a visit so I can see what they have to offer. I think it’s a good program, I’m ready to go up there and see what it’s like up there.”

On weather adjustment to northern schools: “I’m a Florida boy, but I can adjust.”
