Borne to be a Wildcat

The fact three-star defensive tackle Gerron Borne of Reserve (La.) East St. John has never visited the Arizona campus wasn't an issue. According to the 6-feet-3, 275-pounder, he heard enough good things from the Wildcats staff to know that was the perfect place for him.
"I just committed to Arizona about an hour ago," Borne said Tuesday afternoon.

Borne had a handful of other offers, but in the end chose the Wildcats over Pittsburgh.
"Why Arizona?" Borne said. "They have one of the best engineering programs in the nation and that's what I want to major in. The next thing is, it's a program on the come-up. The line coach [Joe Salave'a] played in the NFL And last year, he had three guys go into the NFL."
Borne is rated as the No. 38 defensive tackle nationally and No. 18 prospect in Louisiana.
"When I called Coach Salave'a to commit, he was excited," Borne said. "When he told everyone in the office, they were excited, too. They've been waiting on me."
What made Borne pull the trigger Tuesday?
"One of the reasons is that I wanted to get it over with before the season," he said. "I didn't want to let recruiting get to my head. I just wanted to play the season and not have to worry about it."
Although Borne has not yet visited Arizona, the Wildcats met with him at his school this spring. Now, he will begin planning his trip to Tuscon.
"I don't know when it will be yet," he said. "I'm going to get that set tonight. I should be visiting soon."
